چکیده

An estimator identifying the flow rate through a rotary blood pump was developed. This estimation algorithm uses the pump current and speed signals to estimate the blood flow rate through the pump. The algorithm was derived based on the force balance between the electric torque generated by the motor and the load torque, including the mechanical losses. The corresponding estimator parameters were identified using experimental data in the laboratory. The estimator performed well in mock circulatory loop experiments simulating different physiologic conditions. This algorithm will be implemented in a single board computer to estimate the flow rate of the rotary pump in an implantable left ventricular assist device without invasive sensors.

Design an Equivalent Left Ventricular Assist Device for Medical Equipment Labs

LVAD is a mechanical pump supporting a weak heart function and blood flow. Sometimes, the heart may not recover fast enough to take over the pumping action immediately after surgery, in such patients a temporary support device has been employed to maintain the pumping action until the patient’s own heart recovers. This device can be considered as a temporary alternative before the process of ar...

Control Method of a Rotary Blood Pump for a Left Ventricular Assist Device

The aim of the investigation is to develop a control method of a rotary blood pump (RBP) to solve the following problems: estimation of the pump flow rate, achievement and maintaining of the desired flow level through the continuous adjustment of pump speed and prevention of adverse effects on the cardiovascular system. Results. Functional chart of RBP control consists of several units: a unit ...

Identification and classification of physiologically significant pumping states in an implantable rotary blood pump.

In a clinical setting it is necessary to control the speed of rotary blood pumps used as left ventricular assist devices to prevent possible severe complications associated with over- or underpumping. The hypothesis is that by using only the noninvasive measure of instantaneous pump impeller speed to assess flow dynamics, it is possible to detect physiologically significant pumping states (with...

Passive control of a biventricular assist device with compliant inflow cannulae.

Rotary ventricular assist device (VAD) support of the cardiovascular system is susceptible to suction events due to the limited preload sensitivity of these devices. This may be of particular concern with rotary biventricular support (BiVAD) where the native, flow balancing Starling response is diminished in both ventricles. The reliability of sensor and sensorless-based control systems which a...

Noninvasive average flow estimation for an implantable rotary blood pump: a new algorithm incorporating the role of blood viscosity.

The effect of blood hematocrit (HCT) on a noninvasive flow estimation algorithm was examined in a centrifugal implantable rotary blood pump (iRBP) used for ventricular assistance. An average flow estimator, based on three parameters, input electrical power, pump speed, and HCT, was developed. Data were collected in a mock loop under steady flow conditions for a variety of pump operating points ...
